Reversing Heart Failure With Stem Cells

Saturday, May 25th, 2013

(CNN) – Dr. Roberto Bolli’s face lights up when he talks about his true love: the human heart.

“The heart is really a miraculous organ. It beats 72 times a minute throughout our life, which means billions of times in our lifetime. And it never gets tired,” Bolli says.

Stem cells were taken from patients with severe heart failure and multiplied in a laboratory run by Dr. Piero Anversa at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. A few months later, each patient was re-infused with a million of his or her own stem cells.

The results were dramatic. Patients saw scar tissue replaced by working heart muscle and a significant improvement in their hearts’ ability to pump blood.  Dr. Bolli is hoping to start a larger trial by the fall of 2013.

Serious Health Risks Associated With Some Make Up

A new study finds troubling levels of toxic metals in lipstick, lip gloss and other cosmetics. Click the link below to view a short video where Doctor John Salerno, a board-certified family physician located in New York who specializes in complementary medicine, talks about the risks involved and why women must reconsider their cosmetic purchases.

“We would advise, wherever possible, that women either try to find sources where there are toxic metal-free lipsticks, mascaras and eyeliners, etc.,” says Doctor Salerno. “It’s really very, very important. A lot of this clearly can get into the skin and we can show that with blood tests and urine tests.”

The medical implications may be serious because associations have been made between certain metals and health problems, including aluminum exposure and memory loss and cadmium exposure and cancer.

Dr. Salerno also notes an additional Canadian study found 96 percent of the eyeliners, mascaras and bronzers tested contained lead.
