What is a stem cell?

Stem cells are the master cells of the human body.  They are simply the building block and foundation from which every organ and tissue in our body is formed.

Under the right direction, adult stem cells have the ability to duplicate and become cells of virtually any organ and tissue of the body.  Healthy stem cells are able to repair or replace damaged tissue, muscle and cartilage therefore assisting with the reversal of disease and injuries, improving and maintaining optimal health.  Adult stem cells reside in our body from the day we are born.  Adult stem cells must not be confused with embryonic stem cells that come from an embryo.

More recent medical and technological advancements have enabled scientists to discover a great deal more about stem cells, especially adult stem cells. Recent research in the last decade has generated a great deal of excitement as scientists have found adult stem cells in many more tissues than they once thought possible.  They have also realized adult stem cells can be stimulated and increased from the bone marrow.  Stem cell release rates from the bone marrow drop significantly as we age and this is a key factor linked to aging.  It is very important we continue to activate our healthy adult stem cells from our bone marrow into the bloodstream so they can migrate to areas in need of repair and renewal, no matter what our age.

Adult stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body.  Under the right direction, and with the correct triggers (i.e. specialized proteins, growth and immune factors) they can divide and migrate to areas in need of repair and recovery throughout the entire body.

By enabling more adult stem cells to be activated and moving into our bloodstream we do not age as quickly, we sustain growth and wellbeing for much longer periods of time and we have the ability to  fight disease much more effectively and aggressively.  This new found science is providing hope to millions of people of all ages, ranging from those who are already fit and healthy who want to maintain optimal levels of health and wellbeing, through to those who have a degenerative disease or major health challenge that requires improvement, stabilization and recovery.
